I think the problem came in with the way LLM models and agents have been hyped and marketed to software engineers.
Throw in the desire to prove you're superior to this thing people think you're going to be replaced with and you have a recipe for engineers, especially the good one, to be defensive and highlight the weakness of glue over bolts and screws.
This also then leads to them not learning how valuable glue can be to make them more effective at the thing they are hired to do.
